Portucalense University Infante D. Henrique – UPT

Portucalense University Infante D. Henrique, UPT, is a private higher education institution, created in June 1986, located in Porto. UPT is structured in five Departments: Law, Psychology and Education, Economics and Management, Communication and Informatics, and Tourism, Heritage and Culture, teaching 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle courses and post graduations, according to the Bologna Process. 

UPT aims to be a model in higher education, taking the advantages of the different department’s synergies. More than acquiring theoretical knowledge, the students have the chance to develop practical work and research projects, growing different kinds of skills, a reflective effort to prepare them for their future careers in a competitive global society.

It is the University mission to ensure quality education at the highest standards of excellence in relevant disciplines, to educate fully competent professionals and socially responsible citizens. Students are UPT’s priority and the education it provides aims to equip all graduates with a first-rate education, enhancing their potentialities, and developing their personal and professional competencies. To achieve these objectives, courses are structured to respond to changing labour market needs. 

UPT has dedicated staff, fully qualified, research-active and highly motivated by a spirit of constant self-improvement. It also counts on the input of experienced professionals from different industrial and commercial sectors, through the medium of guest seminars on various themes, thereby promoting a proficuous relationship with the corporate world, preparing students for future professional demands. In this environment of longing for quality, excellence and development, the University has hosted various national and international events, with great success.

General Library of the University Portucalense – BGUPT

The General Library of the University Portucalense, BGUPT, consists of an integrated system responsible for the library activities and the University bibliographic information, aiming to facilitate access to quality information resources necessary to teaching, research, and continuing education of the academic community.

The library provides different study and research areas, workgroup spaces and computer rooms.  Library staff are always available to assist and help students and teachers making the best use of the library’s resources. The Library offers a wide range of services: reference service, interlibrary loan, user’s training, UPT Repository, to name a few.

Special collections include a different range of rare and antique documents and books, namely in areas such as Portuguese Literature and Law.

The library provides not only physical access to traditional resources but also electronic access to a variety of information available in digital formats, on subjects related to the teaching and the research interests of the University staff and students. It provides the academic community with various academic databases, which enable the access to electronic journal titles and books, company and statistic information, and legal documents. Access is available on campus, on student computers, and remotely. The Library’s website and OPAC host all available resources, providing a vital means of communication with its users.

UPT Repository is an open access platform, which provides access to all full-text publications produced by the University, not only PhD Theses and Master’s Dissertations, but all the scientific research developed by the academic community. The main purpose of UPT Repository is to enhance the scientific production of the University of Portucalense’s professors, researchers and students, increasing its visibility and improving its dissemination through participation in the global information and culture network. Both UPT and UPT General Library have been working intensively with partners across the country and the world, delivering world-class research and sharing that knowledge, following Open Access standards and policies.
